what is the proper way to check a d-104 element ?

Looks like to me - you would have to have it hooked through a radio

that is hooked through an oscilloscope to measure the peaks.

I'm guessing of course.

Other than switching it out on a working D104 and taking the head off

and replacing it with the head (cartridge) in question. :idea:

The impedance of the crystal element is over 1 megaohm so an ohmmeter won't work.
