Re: Back swing issue
Even though you're direct injecting, you're still going through the modulator and have to deal with setting the deadkey via VR10. Might not be the case but also an idea. Seems like a nice schematic ...any chance of getting a copy of that one? Thanks I'm confused? The schematic is in the post. Are w...

Re: Madison 8719
Not the best but something I pieced together from the forum over at cbtricks . There is also some differences and I found the 2000/148 schematic to be a little closer to the the Madison's I was working on.

Re: Madison 8719
Red light , I've modded both 2000/148 and Madison's . Both flip clock and digital ones. They are all the same , if you're looking at changing the 455khz IF filter, it's all the same one. These radios sound super good once modded. The alignment will make or break the receiver. I can't remember of han...

Re: D104/desktop preamp mods pt 1
In part 2 I will be using this circuit by N1HFX ,with the exception of removing the input cap and increasing the gate resistor to 10-15 Meg. The D104 element likes impedance over 10 Meg. May also play with the coupling cap values. What they say, the more the merrier or how about a play on that 80's ...

Re: D104/desktop preamp mods pt 1
RB Goldfinger, update #1. The circuit I followed was based on N9WB's Fet Preamp. http://www.qsl.net/hcara/D-104.htm In his arrangement, the JFET is configured in a common drain setup. Everything has advantages and disadvantages. Electronic theory says that this arrangement is setup for current gain....

D104/desktop preamp mods pt 1
In the process of doing projects on my bucket list. The desk top D104 were built with or without preamps in the base. I been wanting to try 3 or 4 different circuits floating around on each. The preamp in the model I have is a 2 stage NPN preamp. The difference between the desktop and the newer hand...

Re: 2-meter?
Anything can be done, look at the schematic and caps in the audio line to the mic preamp or direct inject based on the mode of operation. Bandwidth limiting is normally done in the way of caps from the mic to the preamp. Depending on mode i.e. AM, FM

Re: Back swing issue
That's understandable , I can see where the extra stage could add distortion. Would a hotter opamp be a better replacement then the 945? Anyhow this has side tracked a little from the OP. Nice gate by the way, never hear much injected radios in action. 31: The Galaxy/Ranger has a 3 transistor Darlin...

Re: Back swing issue
GF: I'm tracking what you are saying. Early on in my career in the Navy I would catch myself trying to reverse engineer circuits to be able to troubleshoot more effectively. That was a mistake, I'd find myself deep in the tech manuals and pages and pages of schematics only to find myself more confus...

Re: Back swing issue
A few ways to look at this, the stock mic plugs in through the front and needs to be amplified to bring it up to line level needed to drive the darlington. I've seen rack gear pump out big signals and some small. I can't remember off hand what the stock signal is crossing c174 but that's the same dr...

Was going to post that exact screen shot but for some reason I can't do it from my IPhone. Studying some of Timtron work on some of the boat anchor radios, there much more that can be done but much beyond the scope of the basic cap mods. Values seem close to being optimal. As with older gear caps be...

Re: 31
Gonna try it out this weekend, before I do, quick check so I don't back feed my circuit. I lift the leg if cap to inject then put cap on toggle. That what I was thinking, correct me if I am wrong please. thanks 31 The place where I put the red dot is the lead of the capacitor that you want to leave...

I'm feeling like being in a giving mood. So here goes. C174 attach positive side of electrolytic to the hole with red dot in attached pics for the 2000. Same thing for C235 for the 2547. Hope that helps. As for driving the modulator/regulator, you'll need more drive for the 2000 from your rack. What...

I am still waiting on my reply from Goldfinger on my proposal for receiver audio mods on a Galaxy 44 , should be the same RX section on all if not most Galaxy's. This is just my proposal so don't take it as the correct mods until validated by some know how. The first 2 use ceramic or Mica/Mylar and ...

I am like you in a quest for high fidelity and this is what I know so far. Behringer's line of audio gear seams to be fairly inexpensive and is tolerant of RF type equipment/environment. I purchased a W2IHY dual band EQ which comes with a built in noise gate and a compressor which is really nice. Th...

Make an Ibox?
What is invovled in converting a 600 ohm high impedance studio mic audio down to low level cb audio to be inserted into your radio? The W2IHY Ibox looks easy to make but I don't have one to disect. Not the best drawing but its the only way I know how to explain myself. If I was to use a stock cb mic...

148/Grant Audio
I would like to widen the bandwidth of my Grant to get that warm sounding audio like the Tube radios.I know there are cap changes along with some resistor changes but I do not care about extra power , I just want some broadcast sounding audio with the least amount of audio rack gear if any.
