What does the resistor change here do specifically? I tried this set of mods on a Turner +3 before and liked the change in tone.
Thinking about doing it on another +3 mic for a friend.
Thanks

Re: Sonar FS-2340
Installed a 1/4" phono jack & did the wiring.
Just need to do the cap changes now.
Can I run the output of my rack gear straight into this without any kind of isolation?

Docs say the mic goes down to 300hz stock. I found a nice one so I'm going to check it out on a cap modded 29.

Re: Sonar FS-2340
Easy enough! Thanks a lot, Goldfinger. I'm going to give it a try this weekend assuming on-call with work is quiet.
Will let you know how I make out.

Thanks GF!
I just came into possession of a like-new FS-2340. Clipper board isn't even bypassed yet.

GF,
Ever widened up a Sonar FS-2340?
Was thinking fatten up the caps inside and put rack gear into the mic jack? What do you think?

Thanks for the reply, 31.
I see a cap listed to decrease in value or remove for receive highs... but not for additional highs on TX?

Re: Galaxy 900 series radios 919 through 979
This mod lists to caps for adding bass to the TX, but what about more highs?
Radio in question is a Galaxy 2547, but assume these instructions will be the same.
Thanks!

Re: Back swing issue
The Echomax 2000 ended up having enough gain when direct injected just before the audio chip on my Grant, it just didn't sound so great. I wonder now if the guy in DX land that told me that was the mic he was running was kidding now ... Either way, I have tried both rack gear and digital audio from ...

GoldFinger is the man, that is for sure. Post a gate of the direct injected 29 audio if you get a chance weak station, I'd love to hear it.

Re: Back swing issue
GF, Am I thinking about this right? I want to DI my Grant just before the audio chip and drive it with my Echomax 2000 via the standard microphone plug on the side. Would the following work? - Remove mic audio wire from stock mic jack on radio and replace it with a wire leading to a 10uf a 10UF cap ...

Re: Back swing issue
RPM sounds pretty good in that gate! I talked to a guy in DX land the other day that sounded really good and even with just a widened Cobra 29 receiver could tell he was running wider than stock. Turns out he was running a Galaxy radio, direct injected with an Echomax 2000. It wasn't super bassy but...

c204 on older Cobra 29?
I'm working on a China made side-mic Cobra 29 LTD Classic that was mfg. in 1995.
I can't seem to find c204 to remove for more highs on receive. I know some years don't have it but can anyone point me to the right place to look for it just to make sure?
Thanks!

Thanks for the layout pic Goldfinger! My Made in China Mfgr'd in Feb 2014 Cobra 29 LTD classic does not appear to have this cap. It also appears that my board layout is different. The parts in the general area are in slightly different places on my radio. I see R105, R104, d22, c119, etc. Serial end...

Location of C170 on newer model 29
In the stickied post about Cobra 29 cap changes, there is a link to an image that shows the Location of C170 on newer model 29. Unfortunately that image/link is gone now. Can anyone give me some direction on finding c170 in the new style 29 with the new audio chip? I've combed the thing, surely I'm ...

To those that are curious, You can (if you are careful, and have a steady hand) solder light weight poly or tant caps across the existing caps you're supposed to change (shorten the leads, and bend them like a U shape) with good results! I didn't feel comfortable removing the existing SMT components...

RX cap mods for Galaxy Saturn Turbo?
I searched around but didn't find anything for this exact radio (Did find the direct inject mod, which I intend to try out!) to widen the RX.
My Galaxy Saturn Turbo is essentially the same thing as a RCI 2990.
Thanks!

I have my old school 148 w/ goldfinger's hifi tx mods and my turner +3 sounds pretty good, was thinking maybe I could change a cap or two in it for a little more low end.

turner expander 500 mods?
Hi GF, I came into possession of a very nice Turner Expander 500 with a tone control. People's complaint about this mic (although it has a very effective compressor) is that the tone control removes highs as you add lows. It's not really a tone control in the conventional sense. Do you know of any m...
