Re: Cobra 1000 GTL Direct Injection?

The 1000 has the same problem as a 29ltd. The audio section is used both for transmit and receive. Because of this you will get feedback from the mic in receive mode. To remedy this you either have to find a way to switch off the line level audio from the mic during receive or inject before TR 15. T...

Re: Cobra 25 ltd VFO WIND UP?

It looks like most of the 25 schematics don't even have a capacitance diode on the 10.240 crystal. The circuit would need to be heavily modified.

Re: Cobra 25 ltd VFO WIND UP?

There isn't a Delta-tune. Because of this there isn't TX/RX switching on the reference crystal. Without that present there is no easy way to do the windup.

Re: Galaxy DX 2527 (EPT295013Z) Direct Injection Help

Yeah, it's possible it's getting too much bass, the SSB filter may not like it.
I also looked again at the schematic and C131 needs to be higher in value to pass the lows on SSB.

Re: Galaxy DX 2527 (EPT295013Z) Direct Injection Help

The 1446 RM KL500 is supposed to have bias so it's probably not distorted from being class C. If you direct injected the SSB, it's bypassing Q32 so there wont be any ALC to limit the SSB mod. You can check if it's the amp by getting a barefoot radio check to see if the distortion goes away. If the S...

You are welcome.
If you would like to get rid of the roll off below 100hz on AM, change C301 from a 100uF to a 220uF - 16 volt observing polarity.

Re: Galaxy DX 2527 (EPT295013Z) Direct Injection Help

Yeah, probably so. You *might* be able to use one jack with a 4.7K isolation resistor between the jack and each injection point but to avoid any headache, separate jacks would be the way to go. It wouldn't *hurt* the radio to try the single jack with isolation resistors, you just might get some unwa...

Re: Galaxy DX 2527 (EPT295013Z) Direct Injection Help

I found it, it's inline between the mic amp IC and C299. It can be injected there for AM but you have to make C298 and C299 larger to allow the lows to pass. Injecting at C299 is a better choice for AM. You have to inject at the junction of C136/R157 for wide SSB/ FM. That's where the audio from to ...

This post is fine for the mark 4 but the mark 3 though very similar has completely different part numbers.
I've been very busy for the past few days so I haven't had a chance to check but I'll still look at the schematic soon and see what I think.

Re: Cobra 29 AMC & Hifi

I am. I like to tune L14 for maximum peak power on 29/25's always. As such, this radio was doing a little over 5 dead key. My amp required 3 watts to dead key where I wanted it so I dropped it a little. On the C73 thing, feel free to try higher values if changing to 2.2uF doesn't do much. After all,...

Re: Cobra 29 AMC & Hifi

The cap value of the JP36 mod does affect the tone if it's too small, mostly because the radio is responding much lower from the hifi mod. Making it too large makes the RMS swing kinda "whippy" though, so I usually use a 470uF to allow the lows to peak as high as the mids while not being s...

Re: Turner +3 widen audio?

Yeah, though I agree that using esoteric caps do make an audio signal "sound" better, it's usually only noticeable on a high end home stereo level when using speakers with good resolution. I've been using high end caps for decades in home stereo pre-amps, power amps and speaker crossovers....

Re: Turner +3 widen audio?

The higher load resistance changes the roll-off of the high impedance ceramic element allowing it to respond a little lower. Doesn't really change the gain much. Same trick people have been doing to the handheld D-104's to make them sound fuller.

C71 should block any DC but if you want you could put a blocking cap at the jack. It's a fairly high impedance circuit so a 4.7uF should be plenty big.

As there is no schematic of the amplifier, I did it by studying the PC board and changing a few caps. They actually have a wider response stock than any other Turner (base or mobile) or stock amplified D-104. It responds down to 80hz well from the factory. The only stock CB powermic that goes lower ...
