Re: Lincoln II V3

I learned how to solder on a Pace PRC2000, which is the bigger brother to this. The MBT250 is meant to be portable. I later taught soldering with the 2000. Here at work we use Hakko's. Used very single attachment and handtool. Multilayer conductor repair was the most intense.

Re: Lincoln II V3

I have a Pace MBT250 rework station but only use a thin tip soldering iron. All about technique, kinda like welders can get the same result using different techniques. Hot air is easy to use but could cause collateral damage if your pressure ain’t used right. Iron is more direct and concentrated.

Re: Lincoln II V3

Curt,
Everything is bigger under a scope lol. Really is too easy. I'm really looking forward to see how this staged mic pre responds. SMT is so much cleaner and easier to work on then thru hole. Cheaper parts too.

Planning stages of a new to me radio. Not sure if I’ll touch the tone section of the RX but the mic preamp is staged similar to the Strykers. Will NPC for carrier control. Not sure how playing with the decoupling caps will do in this circuit so you’re gonna have to play with those. b= bass increase ...

Too busy at work and dont have the time to confirm or look at a schematic so take this with a teaspoon of precaution. Also a link to the source. Re: Cobra 29 AMC & Hifi

I run the JP36 swing mod on all transformer modulated radios, to control the deadkey a little better. Even on Direct injected stuff. You can do JP36 mod on the new Surface mount Unidens also. I did an 880 that way with a W2IHY.

Nope, when you direct inject, you bypass the echo board and the mic preamp.

C299 is a non polarized capacitor, lift the star side and tie your line level audio there.

Re: HI fi 148gtl

Most parametric Eqs have all those adjustable features but at the core of the adjustment its center frequency, Q(width of adjustment) and boost or cut. By looking at the 1002 or whatever the model was. Each band had a fixed Q , fixed center frequency and only boost or cut is adjustable really is mor...

Not to step on toes but isn't it a parametric with a fixed Q? Not adjustable like you normally see.

Re: HI fi 148gtl

One more thing , on the audio rack . If you've ever listened to MMM over ther years I think he's adjusted his audio to fit into both stock and widened radios range. You can still sound decent within the parameters of the the stock. Andwidth, however some clever EQing does a world of difference.

Re: HI fi 148gtl

Some radios have a wider response as is there filtering values. Even though most of the Ranger and Galaxy's are built of the same design, little value changes here and there are the difference in sounds that you here. A General Lee can sound like a screamer but adjust the values to a 44V and get the...

Re: HI fi 148gtl

On my borrowed bench I don't have a PC close as I would also run it to a sound card. However I also use a second radio widened with no antenna as a monitor of my audio. MMM sampler is more for a scope pickup. There are other sampler circuits that does both . Scope pickup and a detector to listen to ...

Re: HI fi 148gtl

As far as compressors , they're all pretty decent . For cb or Ham , I wouldn't spend more then $100 for something. The thing you want to look for is RF immunity or rather better yet, ones that work well in that environment. When you look at what's available for cb/ham, one of the first names that co...

Re: HI fi 148gtl

What you hav is good, a graphic EQ is probably the easiest way to tailor the tone of your audio. You can individually adjust a particular frequency to your liking. Parametric EQs are a little more challenging if you're not that familiar with the process. It'll EQ in chunks. You can set it to pass or...

Re: President Lincoln IF filter

Cool thanks! I've done the mod before , just not on a Lincoln . Reading the service manual , I don't get why the AM detection wouldn't come after the 2nd IF at 455khz but I guess they like the single conversion better ? I'll change the 455 kHz anyways and see if it does any better for the AM.

President Lincoln IF filter

GF, I'm aware of all the cap changes to help in the audio response. I know most hardcore DXers will try to increase selectivity by narrowing the IF filter. Looking at the schematic, the 455Khz 2nd IF is only used for SSB. Am I wrong at thinking the AM is only limited in bandwidth by the 10.695 Mhz F...

Re: Recieve mod

No worries bro, I never take any comments to heart, this is all for fun and experimenting. It works but I can't explain why, it really is confusing. Why would something that deals with frequencies and go-no go situations, increase to volume of receive? Strange but it works.

Re: Recieve mod

GF, I did that mod way before I knew what circuits did what. I haven't thought about it till now. Looking at the circuit now makes no sense as to how and why it works. According to something I found online , pin 14 is the reference oscillators buffered output. As I said earlier, the mod just raised ...

Receive Boost: Locate pin 14 of the PLL chip, and the Positive (+) side of C-12. Install a 22k-220k ohm resistor between these two points. The smaller the value, the more the receive is boosted. Use CARE when soldering to the PLL chip! If desired, this mod may be wired through a switch. From many si...
